Gear pumps

Gear hydraulic pump — one of the types of three-dimensional hydraulic machines of the rotor type, consisting of a pair of gears placed in a sealed housing having a suction and discharge cavity, and the working chambers are formed by profiles of tooth depressions, boring surfaces and side covers.

Gear pumps are easy to manufacture and reliable in operation; are applied in hydraulic systems where rather high pressure (to 15 - 20 MPa) at small giving is required, efficiency 87 - 90%. They can also be used to dispense fluids, as well as to supply lubrication or power to auxiliary mechanisms.

As well as other types of volume rotary hydraulic machines in principle can work both in the mode of the hydraulic pump, and in the mode of the hydraulic motor. In that case, if torque is applied to the shaft of the hydraulic machine, the machine operates in the hydraulic pump mode. If the working fluid is supplied to the inlet of the hydraulic machine under pressure, the torque is removed from the shaft and the machine operates in the hydraulic motor mode.

By the nature of gearing, gear hydraulic pumps can be divided into 2 groups:

• Gear pump with internal gearing;
• Gear pump with external gearing.

Gear pumps with internal gearing are used mostly in complex hydraulic systems where high pressure operation is required for a long time.

External gear pumps are ideal for a wide range of applications, as they are simpler and cheaper to manufacture, namely:

• presses and metalworking machines;
• manipulators and lifts;
• hydraulic oil stations and other industrial hydraulic systems;
• oil lubrication and filtration systems;
• as an auxiliary working body in systems with high pressure pumps;
• small vehicles, such as car lifts, lawn mowers and electric forklifts, and others;
• medium and large vehicles, such as tractors, backhoe loaders, dump trucks and telescopic handlers, etc.

Gear pumps can be combined in many variants, and in various combinations they are able to meet any needs.
